80s Fancy Dress Ideas
The 80's was the era that meant outrageous fashions and huge wild hair and everything had to be accessorised. It allowed people to express themselves, their personalities, creativity and individuality and with MTV making a massive impact, it meant everyone could replicate their idols.
With many people now wanting to re-live that era more and more people having themed 80s fancy dress parties, so to help to get the look right we will look at the styles for both men and woman from head to toe.
Starting with the hair for woman it was all about bangs, feathered hair, crimping, lots of back combing and side ponytails. Adding highlights of bright colours and glitter would finalize the look along with tying parts of the hair with bits of lace. For men it was about growing out their hair to be long and layered mullet style, again some would crimp their hair, making it has frizzy has possible. Some went for the Mohawk style, or an afro style, again highlights of colour would help to distinguish themselves.
The 80's was also about the make-up for both men and woman. It was made up of rich bright colours for the woman, pink lips and blue eye shadow, glitter patterns on the face and not forgetting to add beauty moles to depict Madonna. For men it was black eye make-up, piercings, ray-bans and glasses.
Tops and jackets set the next part to get the 80s fancy dress costume right. For some men it was rock band shirts, black with neon logos, leather or denim jackets some with chains and patches attached. For the others it was pastel colours, of sleeveless shirts and ocean pacific T-shirts. For the ladies it was primary colours and neon all the way, with crop tops and sweaters to tie around the waist. For the bottom half of the ensemble for some men it was tight leather rock style pants, spandex and tight stonewashed jeans for the 80's rocker. For the rest it was the American dream man look with corduroy pants, high waisted pleated trousers. The woman's was very much the same with the stonewashed jeans and spandex, but many would have this with zippered legs and lace overskirts. They would team three quarter length leggings with leg warmers and scrunch socks in neon colours which they would match to their crop tops or sweaters. Tight minis would be teamed with brightly coloured tights/hosiery with the obligatory rips.
For the shoes the woman either went with brightly coloured stilettos or big knee high chunky boots. For men it was pointed leather boots, trainers or slip on loafers.
But this whole look could not be finalized until it had been accessorised, so for your 80s fancy dress costume remember these ideas. Big clock necklaces, friendship bracelets in neon colours, plastic charms and beads, hoop earrings, big hair bows, safety pins and of course the lace gloves were just a few of the choices the woman would use. For men coloured braces, brimmed hats, rhinestone gloves, bandanas and leather necklaces and bracelets would complete off their look.
So the 80s gave lots of assorted looks, and when option the right 80s fancy dress outfit for you, try to put your own individuality on it like they did in the 80s.
