HOW DO I GET RID OF crane flies (daddylong legs ) LARVA .? i Iive in the uk , and i have my grass treated by a firm every three months or so . They informed that i have got leather jackets larva in the soil of my grass . There is mild damage to my lawn from the latter . To have my lawn sprayed with some insecterside would cost 30 quid or so by the firm .
Any ideas what the insectercide might be or other ways of killing these pests, and where would i get such grass treatments ??????
Leatherjackets. These fat grubs of crane-flies or harvestmen (daddy longlegs) live in the soil, particularly in lawns and newly cultivated land. They feed on roots and can be very damaging to lawns, causing brown patches in summer. Control by watering the turf with BHC Benzene hexachloride (BHC; gamma-BHC;HCH; Gammexane; Lindane, during damp weather in spring or autumn. On cultivated ground, deep cultivation exposes them to birds, or you can use BHC bromophos powder. I wish you the very best of luck.
