How heavy is medium weight PVC?
I'm making a dress from strips of PVC stitched to a fabric lining.
I'm planning to buy about 4(?) metres of PVC fabric from ebay
(http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-GLOSSY-PVC-FABRIC-PER-METRE-150cm-WIDTH-/220706634522?pt=UK_Crafts_Fabric_Textiles_SM&hash=item336323fb1a#ht_897wt_891).
It says medium weight, and I know it says good for dressmaking, I just want to make sure since I've never used it before. So just how thick is this?
Also, will I need to use different machine needles? I bought some leather needles (they look a little like a pointed blade).... do you think that will do? I'll test it, but I'd rather know BEFORE I buy the fabric. Thanks!
There's no way to tell from the information given how heavy it is. This is part of the issue with buying mailorder. Can you return it if it's not suitable for your purpose? Can you use it for a different project?
Needles for vinyl: NOT leather points -- they'll make perforations. Try a microtex or other small, sharp needle, sizes 60/8 through about 90/14 -- use the smallest that will sew without skipping stitches.
