Rewrite this short paragraph (7th grade) help?

Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones is a tough but caring woman in the short story "Thank You, M'am." While Mrs. Jones is walking down the street late one night, a boy tries to steal her purse but instead gets a lesson in life from Mrs. Jones that he isn't likely to forget.
Mrs. Jones kicks the boy and shakes him after he tries to steal her purse.
Then she drags him home with her and makes him wash his face. He tells Mrs. Jones that he wanted to buy a pair of blue suede shoes.
The tough approach Mrs. Jones takes in punishing the boy is probably much more effective than if she had reported him to the police.

I am assuming that you are supposed to edit this because your teacher asked you for a "character analysis" as you say... which i am guessing is another term for a characterization... what you have given i the above paragraphs is a SUMMARY of the story. In a characterization, you write an essay describing the features and impact of the character and the impact the character has on the story. If i were you I would chose three characteristics (preoperties, adjectives) of the character and then support the traits by providing proof from the story.

example: "After watching Bobby's books fall across the hallway floor, Angie walked up and helped him pick all of the papers up."

after reading this short sentence... a characteristic of Angie is:

caring

you would support this fact by stating a fact from the story, not directly but indirectly from the story, like this...

she helped Bobby pick up his papers which was not completely necessary of her, although extremely caring.

after combining these two things you would be left with----

One obvious characteristic of Angie is her caring attitude towards others. In the story, Angie helped Bobby pick up his papers which although was not necessary, was extremely nice and caring.

If i were yo I would make an outline first and just do bullets with each of the characteristics of the character you are analyzing. Then underneath the bullets you provide proof. After doing so, you create the characterization.
